It is caused by using screws of which the heads are too large for the countersunk holes in the hinge, and may be avoided by slightly sinking the holes in the brasswork with a countersink or rose-bit.
Countersink the hole in the base on the under side with a 1/2-in.
Another method, which is not nearly as good, is to drill a hole clear through the board, countersink it on top for a bolt head, and bolt the board and tripod head directly together.
By using round-head screws it was unnecessary to countersink the metal.
Homemade Countersink for Wood A round or flat-head bolt can be made into a good rosebit or reamer for countersinking holes for screw heads.
Be sure to countersink the holes for the heads of the bolts.
But when the lathe has made rather more than one-half a revolution, the forcible contact at B will be relieved, and either the work or the countersink will move back towards D.
A, or a countersink bit such as B, and the bit may be made to suit various sizes of holes by making its diameter suitable for the smallest size of hole the tool is intended for, and putting ferrules to bring it up to size for larger diameters.
The end of the pin should be recessed as shown at A, so that it may be the more readily riveted outward to fill the countersink shown in the crank at B, B.
To overcome this difficulty the countersinkmay be pierced to receive a drill as in Fig.
The countersink of the needle may be made less acute than the lathe centre, so that the contact will be at the very point of the lathe centre, the needle not being centre-drilled.
To true the back face, round a hole against which face the bolt head or the face of the nut may bed, in cases where such facing cannot be done by a pin countersink or a cutter used in a machine, the tool shown in Fig.
Another method of forming the half-round countersink is shown in Fig.
In countersink head bolts, such as the patch bolt in Fig.
Bore all holes, where shown in the drawing, and countersink them.
Countersink all holes, except the four holes which hold the supports for the cart handle.
Countersink the holes on the side from which the screws enter.
Countersink this hole enough to allow the head to sink flush with the surface.
The rose countersink is the most satisfactory form.
Take great care not to countersink too deeply, for the long strips are so thin that the screws may come through on the under side.
Countersink a little hollow around the opening of each hole (see Countersink), to catch the surplus glue which would otherwise form a rim around the dowel (Fig.
The Clark double-cut countersink (for wood only) cuts smoothly and is easily sharpened.
Countersink for the heads on the back of the shield and so fasten the antlers in place.
Always coat the edges with shellac or clay water to prevent adhesion and countersink a few holes for dowels to aid in holding the pieces in place.
Now take off the board and countersink on the back a place for the head of a coarse threaded screw.
Countersink the top of the hole so that the full diameter of the countersink will be 1-1/4 in.
Countersink the heads of the screws so they will not be in the way of the hands when the vise is used.
After this small hole has been drilled through both pieces, a countersink should be placed in the drill chuck and the hole in the upper piece countersunk to a depth equal to half the thickness of the metal in which it is drilled.
The valves, C, and their seats, B, bored with a countersink bit, are plainly shown.
Unclamp the pieces from the drill press, turn them over, and countersink the small hole in what was originally the lower piece.
Lay it on the die so that it will fit nicely in the countersink and drive it through the hole by striking the punch with a hammer.
Before fastening the top rails in position, drill and countersink two holes in each piece for the screws, in the position shown in drawing.
Bore quarter-inch holes, countersink and fasten the top to cross pieces by three-inch flat-head screws.
The expansive bit] The screw-driver bit is simply a screw-driver with a bit shank instead of a wood handle, and the countersink has a cone-shaped end with enough grooves cut in it to give one or more cutting edges.
The brace is a sort of universal tool holder, and any tool designed to fit into it is known as a bit, as for example a countersink bit, or a screw driver bit, and several varieties of drills.
Mounted birds are usually put on temporary stands of rough boards or limbs and when fully dried out transferred to a permanent mount which can be prepared in the meantime of the exact size and variety wished for.

Bore a 5/16" hole thru the block endwise the grain, countersink the ends, and smooth them so that they cannot injure the elastic.
