My answer applied to the Assertoryor Testimony Oath.
The discipline spoken of in the promissory part of the oath must be the same which was spoken of in the assertory part.
That oaths both assertory and promissory are lawful, will not be denied but by Quakers, &c.
The rules respecting the simple Assertory propositions are thus, even from the beginning, given in conjunction and contrast with those respecting the Modals.

An assertory oath imposes the obligation of telling the truth and of repairing any damage that results from the falsity or injustice of the declaration.

An oath is either assertory or promissory: if it be an oath of the promissory kind, it is called a vow.
But, the idea denoted by the word prayer, applies in this case with no less propriety to an assertory oath than to a promissory vow.
